Color Blocking

Color blocking is thought of as the exploration of taking colors that are opposites on the wheel and paring them together to make interesting and complementary color combinations. It is commonly associated in fashion as a trend that originated from the artwork of Dutch painter, Piet Mondrian.

Color blocking is a method of wearing multiple colors in outfit. The outfit revolves around a palette of two or more colors, usually in bright shades.

If you love bright colors, it’s easy to incorporate color blocking into your own wardrobe and home decor.

Choose 2-3 colors that you think go well together. If you are not sure of how to pair colors, look at a color wheel. Try to either choose colors which are close together on the wheel, like orange, red, and pink, or which are directly across from each other, like blue and yellow. You can also choose a varying shades of the same color.

For instance, you might mix warm grey skin skirt with a top that is bright yellow to make the yellow really pop.

Experiment with unexpected combinations. Part of what makes color blocking, such a popular trend is that it opens the door to fun and usually color combinations.

Close colors that look good on your skin. The colors that look best on you will work best on your skin tone and look better in blues and paler hues.

Trying color blocking with pieces you already own is great. You don’t have to go out and buy more clothing for your wardrobe in order to try color blocking trend. Just look for shirts, pants, or accessories and mix them together. Then you are good to go.
